Murals and Artwork around New York City

One day left in New York City, running low on funds and having to be at JFK Airport by 8PM, I didn’t want to waste my last day in The Big Apple. So I needed to do something that was cheap, exciting and memorable.

The day before while I was in Brooklyn I stumbled upon a graffiti artwork of The Notorious B.I.G which was one of the highlights of my trip. So me and my brother went around the city on our final day, finding more graffiti artwork which turned out to be one of the best days of the trip. Anyone with a plan to visit New York City who is a fan of art, after you’ve finished visiting The MET museum, check out some of the places I am about to talk about. You won’t regret it.

The first place we visited was ‘The Bushwick Collective’ in Brooklyn:

The first thing we saw was this big-headed graffiti of Donald Trump. Interpret it any way which you would like.

These are just some of the artwork, slogans and character portraits we saw at The Bushwick Collective. It’s a number of roads in Brooklyn that are completely covered in artwork and graffiti.

Next, we went to The Welling Court Mural in Astoria:

Art is always open to interpretation. This artwork is showing white policeman looking over and protecting a Black Panther, showing the unity between the two races. If only this really was the case. #BLM

Our final destination was a trip to Little Italy:

Probably the best celebrity portrait I saw. Tribute to the late Audrey Hepburn outside a neighbourhood cafe named ‘Caffe Roma.’

Portrait of the late John Lennon. This, the Audrey Hepburn and Keith Haring portraits are within a minute walk of each other.

Unfortunately, there are people who hope this comes true.

Hopefully on my next visit to NYC I will see more artwork, particularly tributes to celebrities who I think are deserving of one in the city of New York (Jay-Z, ASAP Yams).
